  8. SmartBoard is a "Clipboard Extender" for Windows 95/NT. The 
  9. normal  Windows Clipboard can only retain a single item at a 
  10. time - as soon as you copy a second item on to the Clipboard 
  11. you lose the first one. With SmartBoard running that is no 
  12. longer true, SmartBoard retains multiple "Clip Items", even 
  13. across a Windows restart, and allows simple pasting back of 
  14. any of them into any application.

  16. SmartBoard runs as an invisible task in Windows - there is 
  17. no icon cluttering up your desktop - but a single mouse-click 
  18. or hot-key press pops SmartBoard up on top of your current 
  19. application allowing you to select the "Clip Item" you want 
  20. to paste, and then disappears out of the way again having 
  21. pasted it into the current application automatically - you 
  22. don't normally even need to use the application's paste 
  23. command. Using Smartboard is a complete no-brainer, you just 
  24. pop it into your Start-up group and forget it until you need 
  25. it. It appears almost "built-in" to the operating system 
  26. itself.

  28. SmartBoard supports all clipboard formats, and allows you 
  29. to configure it in exactly the way that works for you. You 
  30. can specify what clipboard formats to capture, from what 
  31. programs, limit captures to items under a specific size and
  32. specify preferred formats from particular programs. For 
  33. example you could specify that you want to capture both
  34. Rich Text Format and plain Text from Microsoft Word, and 
  35. the Lotus compatible XL1 format from Microsoft Excel, but 
  36. only if it is less than 50K in size.

  38. The modern interface looks much like File Manager or the 
  39. Win95 Explorer, with a set of user-definable categories down 
  40. the left side, and the content of the currently selected 
  41. category on the right. In the case of text items the first 
  42. few characters are shown, Bitmaps and Metafiles show as 
  43. thumbnails and other data gives capture details.

  45. You can assign nicknames to any of the items to help 
  46. identification, and you can "zoom-in" on an item for a closer 
  47. look by right-clicking. Zooming in on text presents a pop-up 
  48. window showing the first few lines complete with formatting 
  49. (tabs/line breaks etc.), zooming in on graphics shows them 
  50. full-size. A unique "plug-in viewer" interface allows the 
  51. development of zoom-in capability for any other Clipboard 
  52. format, and we supply plug-ins to support the RIFF Wave format
  53. (for copying sounds), the RTF format (used by WordProcessors) 
  54. and the "File-List-Handle" format (integral to the Win95/NT
  55. explorer. The interface is open and we supply sample source
  56. code to help other developers.

  58. A system-wide hot-key facility allows you to associate a key
  59. combination with a particular item, then whenever you press 
  60. the key combination the associated item is automatically 
  61. pasted into the current application. Or you can paste up and
  62. down lists of items using hot-keys.

  64. You can move items around between categories using Drag 'n
  65. Drop, and append multiple text items together. Items can
  66. be edited, printed or copied to file. In the case of Text
  67. items a "template" capability allows the user to create
  68. "boilerplate" items with variable fields that can either be
  69. updated automatically (dates/times etc.) or by the user 
  70. specifying the required replacement data via a dialog box
  71. at paste time.

  73. All the usual elements of a modern Windows application, such
  74. as toolbars, fly-by and context sensitive help are included
  75. making SmartBoard easy to use.
